You all know, I love my hair scarves. They cure a bad hair day in about three seconds flat. They’re versatile, there’s a million different types to go with different outfits, they’re so easy to throw in a bag or a suitcase. You can wear them with hair down, hair up high, hair in a low bun (shown here). I always make sure I pack a few when I’m traveling because I almost never travel with a blow dryer or anything else. This sometimes finishes the look on days when hair doesn’t air dry as well as others (you know what I mean?). Also, perfect for that sort of bald-at-the-hairline postpartum deal we know and love.
jersey shore 2018, in video form.
we love these. they’re what sustain us in the long winter months until our next trip to the shore! honestly, parker will just open the vimeo app on the tv once in awhile and just sit and watch. so, here’s our latest. my attempts to capture some special times with cousins and family together. a moment in time. geez, these make me nostalgic.
in case you’d like to make them yourself (do it!), for the more vintage looking frames, i used the 8 mm app. the other clips are taken with my dslr. they’re put together using imovie (more simple than you think!). uploaded to vimeo. shared here! that’s it!
happy seventh birthday, parker!
Last night as I was putting him to bed, I told him again a bit about the night he “came out of my belly.” How I woke up and felt like he was coming that day, how Mame rubbed my feet to get things moving, how we were living in our old house and I went for a walk, and then hours later to the hospital, and then I pushed him out and there he was! All 7 pounds and ten ounces of him, and how I fell in love with him immediately and knew that I would love and protect this boy for the rest of my life. Sometimes he asks, “but how did I get in your belly??” “God put you there!” When is the correct time for the talk?
my picks from the nordstrom sale.
It’s that time of year and no doubt you’ve seen links out the wazoo for everyone’s Nordstrom Anniversary Sale picks. Well… here’s one more. Now wait a second. I won’t overwhelm you, cause you to go into total debt, refinance your homes… but I do want to give a quick shout out to some of the trieds and trues in my own life, and that happen to also be on sale, because who doesn’t love a good deal?
date night on the lake.
It had been weeks–a couple months even–since our last date. With Steve’s summer schedule, there’s loads of quantity time but it’s far too easy to let the quality time slip. Since we’ve been up on the lake, we’re together every day, but so are we all. And there’s a lot of us! We’ve had visitors–Nathaniel and Jordan who have come up for a few days here and there in between their work weeks, a friend of William’s, some cousins, my own Mom and Dad who are staying here–and you know how it goes. There’s my husband but have we actually spoken except to quickly meal plan that night’s dinner? given hugs? made lasting eye contact in the last four days? Whenever we stay up here, we have the best intentions of taking the boat out at night, being together alone. But it so rarely actually comes to fruition. Lake days mean early mornings, and then early nights and you get lazy, put on your pajamas, and open your book. Lights off by 10. Steve took the bull by the horns this time, made a reservation for one of the restaurants in downtown Wolfeboro, and said, “I’m taking you out tonight!” Well, okay then, handsome man!
stone harbor, 2018.
When we said our goodbyes and drove away from some of the cousins this year, after a yummy pizza dinner at Poppi’s in Wildwood, Parker sat in the back of the car and began to cry. Through big tears he told us how much he was already missing his cousins. I texted Kate, “Parker’s already crying.” She texted back, “So is Quinn.” We decided we absolutely have to get these kids together more often. It’s our responsibility! (And a plan to do so is already in the works.)
happy 4th! and some notes.
It’s July! And I feel like this. I mean, I really do. No doubt it’s made worse by the fact that Parker will be in full day in the fall, and Anders will have 2 mornings a week at preschool (rip my heart out and stomp on it why don’t you). This nagging feeling pesters me every summer without fail–and right about now too–but here’s a reminder! For me! And for you! I think we reach July 1 really quickly. Time on overdrive. The end of school, graduation ceremonies and parties (for some), and the like but then I think the rest of July and August doesn’t have quite quite the same zooming-to-the-unwelcome-finish-line that mid-June to July 1 has. Or at least I’m telling myself that. Do you agree?
Airing of grievances (or husband and wife pet peeves, vol. 2)
We had such hilarious feedback the first go-round, so I thought it should become a more regular thing so long as we can continue to find pet peeves about one another (I don’t see this being too difficult). I got a lotta problems with you Steve Hunt, and now you’re gonna hear about it! Let the airing of grievances begin!
Notes for the Road
We’re home from an amazing week in New Jersey–getting all of our ducks in a row as you do once you’re home from a trip. Laundry, cleaning, and the like. I also am thinking through having Parker pitch in more this summer. This morning, I had him dress Anders. I’m having him bring his dishes to the sink (easy; he should’ve been doing this all along. My fault!) He’ll be 7 soon. It’s time!
Some weekend reading…
ocean city boardwalk!!
Last year, Parker broke his arm the day before we were due to visit the boardwalk. Of course, the plan very abruptly got the kibosh. We’ve been talking about it ever since, so it was with extra excitement that we headed there this year.
