two things i love
a homecoming
homecoming weekend has come and gone. the weekend held good friends, get-to-gethers, wild horse, some rascal flatts (brought to you by hunt & the home boyz–our very own country boy band), pumpkin bread, a champagne toast , a firelog, some talk of a new baby (congrats soon-to-be parents jenny & aaron!), and, well, you get the point. it was a fun weekend.
be thankful for the moments (that’s for me to learn, too).
apples, boston, & u2
well, it’s officially fall now. i would say i’m just now accepting this fact… it takes me a little while. i’ll prolong flip flops until my toes are a subtle shade of blue. the kids are really into the swing of things at school. it took a little while. when lindsey came home one day with her lunch box completely full as i sent it off, except for the brownie, i realized we had a little bit of work to do. lindsey is learning, slowly but surely, that she needs to open her mouth more to eat and less to talk in this new (to her, anyway) schedule where lunch is actually not however long as she wants it to be. ahh, the things we take for granted that they know. we did however make sure that they got down the whole asking to go to the bathroom and raising ones hand with a question thing. as someone who was never home-schooled, i wasn’t sure what the transition would look like. william has gotten many “stars” in his class–stickers that he gets when he’s helped out/done something nice. at one point, he was in the lead. he makes his mama proud. so, all in all, the home-schooled to public school transition has gone well! kudos to william and lindsey!
some cool info about walk on that you might already know: aung san suu kyi – a woman in burma who has been on house arrest for 14 of the last 20 years for working towards democratization in a country whose military regimes are among the most repressive world-wide… (all the while she employs gandhi’s non-violence approach). she has even been given the opportunity to be deported and free, but she remains in burma under house arrest instead. in 1991, she won the nobel peace prize (accepted on her behalf by her sons) and used the money – $1.3 million dollars – to start a health and education trust for the people of burma. all of this to say, that u2 has dedicated a song to her, i’m sure in part so that her good works and incredible spirit are not forgotten while she remains on house arrest. anyway, i leave you with her story, which maybe you’d heard already but, if you hadn’t, are glad you did. here’s walk on (from giants stadium about a week after they were @ gillette… our camera isn’t good enough nor were we close enough to get it!) along with some of our pictures.
first day of school
today was a big day. william and lindsey, who have only ever been home-schooled (by becky, and oh how we will miss her!), went off to our local public school. lindsey is in 2nd now and william is in 4th. the day started early with a 6:50 am knock on our bedroom door… in walked the both of them dressed and with their backpacks on. this is no exaggeration. for william, this isn’t a shocker, but lindsey is no early riser. they were excited, well lindsey was mostly… william was a little nervous. as we watched them get on their bus at 8:00, it was a bit emotional (a few little tears is all)… for us, not them… but then they arrived home with happy tales of their first day.
