I would like…

While that first outfit is just so perfect and pretty, maybe this is really more like it…

I’m not giving him away. Or myself. But the hat on my head! Actually, if you’re freaked out at my potential lice problem (there is no problem, but with grade schoolers in the house, it’s always a distinct possibility) then fear not. I bought two. One for you–lice-free–and one for me–hopefully also lice-free. Ew, why did I get on this lice kick? Anyway…we will be hat twins! Hat sisters! Hat buddies! Hat friends! And I’m done.

I really just thought the hat was cute. And I thought you might think so too. Basically, I am just glad to have this blog and to have all of you friends out there so consider it a thank you–unfortunately you won’t all get one so, to all the giveaway losers, keep reading for your thank you. Even though I’ve never met most of you, your e-mails and comments are really something. I love getting notes that our really crazy love story might’ve inspired you in some way. Or that we have a similar story (and there aren’t too many of us!) and simply sharing a commonality is special. I look forward to blogging every Monday through Friday morning. And I guess I could be doing this simply for memory’s sake but it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without you guys. Gosh, I’m getting all mushy now. Someone pass the tissues.

Pumpkins, and cider, and donuts, oh my!

We went to a nearby farm a few days ago. It was a beautiful fall day and the kids’ grandparents were in town, so it seemed the perfect thing to do. We picked out pumpkins, the kids ate too many donuts, and we drank hot cider. It was lovely.

W. picked out a big old pumpkin, ripe for the carving (that’s the one slung over husband’s shoulder. Speaking of, doesn’t he have a nice backside?). We almost bought it until it was rung up as $12. This farm was not a charity by any means. We did go home with full bellies though, so it wasn’t a total loss. The pumpkin will find another home, no doubt.

And that was our pretty fall day.

i also got to see my niece and nephew (they are cousins, not brother and sister, in case you were wondering) this weekend so all in all, it was a definite success.

totally dreamy, right?

i so wanted to smooch him on the lips but, you know, i have germs, so the forehead had to do.

one day, buddy, one day…

and is she beautiful or what?

i can say this about the both of them since i didn’t actually give birth to them.

if i had, i guess it’d be seen as a little on the cocky side?

a wedding.

You’ve made it this far… through all of the photos to the end. Bravo to you! This weekend I had the absolute privelege of attending my high school friends’ Elizabeth and Andrew’s wedding in Philadelphia. I was in tears most of it (and am tearing up again just looking at the pictures), simply because the two of them have been through a lot and are now husband and wife (and the song that you hear now was sung so beautifully at the wedding–needless to say, it moved me). Everybody loves a good love story, eh? Theirs is simply one of the best. It’s not my story to share, so sorry I am being vague, but just know that it’s a good one and that, as sure as I can be, God was smiling down upon them on this day.

Congratulations Elizabeth and Andy! I wish you the absolute best in this new chapter. Love you guys. Have fun in France too, though I’m sure that won’t take too much effort.

husband’s birthday continued.

Like I said, my husband had a birthday. I made these for dinner per his request and a chocolate cake. Confession: the cake was from a box (Bloggers everywhere are wincing as they read that). The icing however was homemade from a Ghiradelli chocolate bar (and some other ingredients; there, have I made up for the cake-from-a-box?). It was delicious. And the other side of the cake wasn’t quite so lopsided as the side you’re seeing here. You can thank my husband, the man behind the camera, for not telling me to turn it.

I also got to play with my new camera lens (who’s birthday was it anyway?!). I like. But, it’s becoming more apparent every day that I need to take a photography course since aperture and f-stop are like Japanese to me. I think that’ll happen within the next year.

I got him a Mac photo book of our Italy trip. Full of tasty pictures and lovely sights. Oh, I miss it. But I am pretty confident we’ll return some day. That makes us happy. We promised the kids some Meditteranean ocean and Italian treats. We also got him a one-hour massage. He was in desperate need. This man is a stress-ball.

Once more… happy birthday husband. I love you. Wear your seatbelt so we can do this again next year, ok?

And just like that I am off to Philadelphia for a wedding and to smoosh my newest nephew a lot. See you next week!

It’s my husband’s birthday! (Warning: music. I’m nice like that.)

Dear sweet husband of mine,

It’s your birthday. Extra special treatment for an extra special guy, or something like that. Let me just say some extra special things on this extra special occasion (that’s the last extra special, I promise). Well, I’ll begin with an “I love you.” I really do. Man, this journey we’ve been on has not always been easy but with you by my side along with an ever-present knowledge that our love is still safe, we’ve made it. And we’re making it. You make me laugh. I like that you get my weird humor, that we have a bazillion inside jokes (most of which, we can’t remember anymore). I like that dating me is important to you even though I’m not just your girlfriend anymore. I like dating you too. I like how you appreciate my cooking and that you can, at times, talk me off my ledge of insanity (what? me??). I like that you like to travel and to dream and to plan. I like that you told me, long ago, love is not just a feeling but a choice. You’ve taught me a lot, you know. I also like that you remind me of the time at Baja Fresh that we shook on making our marriage work, as if that is somehow more significant than our wedding ceremony itself. Thank you for teaching me about life and love and thanks for marrying me. And thanks for being my best friend. I really love you.
