Nordstrom’s having their half-yearly sale, which is a nice time to grab a few things for summer if your needing a few. While not everything is included in their sale–like these pants*–they’re my favorite purchase lately and aren’t priced too high to begin with. (And they come in two colors–here’s the red!). As I am here doing this post, I’m seeing that the blue are sold out. I will definitely update if they go back in stock (and I suspect they will–the red were out of stock when I bought the blue, and now they’re back in!). I will be wearing them all summer. A linen blend, pull on pant. My favorite. *Unfolded laundry and laundry basket sold separately.
Mementos for you (or the guy) in your life.
I’ve been a longtime fan of Parabo Press. Their sweet and simple ways of displaying photos from their wooden display stand to their wooden rails speaks my language. What is that language? Easy, noncommittal, and without too many holes in your walls.
Notes for the Road
It’s been a week! Does anyone else feel that way? There’s a lot online right now that’s making me want to unplug and dig deep in home life, my children, and a quiet space. There’s some stress on the home front that is, no doubt, contributing to this feeling as well. Hope you guys are keeping your heads above water, and finding the solace you need when you need it!

five things, and then some.
On the way to school today, Anders, donning a bright yellow rain jacket behind me buckled snug in his car seat said listlessly, “I wish the sun were out today.” Then I went to the post office, and gave the post office worker, an older gentleman with a kind face and a broad smile, a knowing glance. “If it’s not winter we’re complaining about, now it’s spring!” It’s amazing the way the weather, when especially terrible, can dominate conversation. “It was such a promising spring for a bit there too. And then.” We shared a laugh, and that was nice.
healthy smoothie and smoothie bowl additions!
spring is here! (in date alone, the sun hasn’t been out for 17 days in massachusetts and it’s cold and i’m shriveling up inside and mother nature is a cold hearted b.) but with that, i think about smoothies and fruit more than i do in winter time. cold outside, cold smoothie, nah. i asked recently what you guys are adding into your smoothies to up the nutrition factor aside from the obvious. i got a ton of answers and here they are!
Mother’s Day.
I think Mother’s Day is the day when it’s perfectly acceptable to get exactly what you want and to make no bones about it. And ladies, LADIES, listen. Save yourself the disappointment and your husband/partner the trouble by just texting him a link of what you want. This is important. It doesn’t mean you are any less loved. It just means you are acknowledging that sometimes life is busy and that most human beings are not mind-readers.
Notes for the Road
My parents were up for Easter and we had a lot of rain but when the sun did peek through, we headed straight for the beach and IT WAS GLORIOUS. Feeling that warm sand on bare feet again after a long winter is heaven. Hope you all are having a good spring so far!

Hitting my stride.
Here I am, 34 years old, and in some ways just hitting my stride. You hear women declare that 40s were their best decade, 30s, so on–I can’t say I often hear 20s–but I do feel like I’m hitting my stride in a way I haven’t before. And that’s not to say that my personal life is perfect. Far from it.
Notes for the Road
This bedroom has been sitting on my desktop for months. It’s one of my favorite simple, beautiful, and yet not over-the-top bedrooms I’ve seen on the web. We switched rooms around last weekend, and now the family bed is in our larger back bedroom (the idea behind giving the boys the big room was hoping they’d actually play in it but, it turns out, they only play where we are for the most part. So the bedroom wasn’t used for sleep OR play so it made sense to take it back for at least sleep!). Maybe now I’ll actually decorate it?!
five things I’m loving right now.
01. I got a subscription to a magazine just for myself and dammit, I deserved it guys. I work hard, I have a lot of stress (lately a lot of it; not all the time, thankfully), I’m a good Mom, and I have been wanting one for awhile. I used to get Real Simple, but stopped it years ago and since then haven’t had one. Well, those days are over. It’s you and me, Outside Magazine. I can’t tell you the little burst of happiness I get when one arrives in the mail. The articles are somewhat life-giving too. Dream-worthy trips, how nature is becoming prescribed medicine, backpacking tales, etc. If there’s something that’s not too expensive, that will bring you a bit of joy when it arrives month after month, do it!
