it’s that time! the time of year when bloggers dust off the ‘ol photoshop buttons and commission links and get to fashion collaging! grab your pumpkin spice lattes, put the funkiest looking pumpkins out on your stoops (really. remember the days when pumpkins were just round and orange?), and go take a picture of your feet with some leaves cause it’s fall, ya’ll! so, i’m not entirely sure what all of that was, except a bunch of october cliches (many of which i happily take part in except the PSL; i’m legitimately not into them.) to introduce you to my fall fashion collage. i actually like it quite a bunch so cliches aside, it should be taken very seriously.
// THE TOPS //
bomber jacket (on sale!): i really, really love this bomber jacket. put on a pair of aviators and start telling people, “i feel the need… the need for speed.” (disregard that this really isn’t the same sort of jacket in top gun–pish posh, only details!)
a white tee: what a dummy i am for including this but if you’re the last person in the world who doesn’t already own a white tee you love, this one has an oddly high number of reviews (are you one of them?) and the majority are positive (almost 200!).
ivory turtleneck sweater: there’s nary an ivory sweater that i turn my nose up at but this one with the detail? ye get in my closet now.
gray sweater: whenever something is clearly so long in the sleeves and torso it gets a double or triple-look from me. it looks so cozy!
loooong cardigan: ok gap, now you’ve really gone and done it. might this be the perfect long sweater that you’re never gonna take off? it’s like practically to the floor! also available in light gray aka the color that we have more of than anything else in our whole closet (except black; or is that just me?)
// THE BOTTOMS //
black jeans (on sale!): i wear my black jeans all the time. i’ve been saying this for a very long time now but, really, when the weather turns, i grab these 9 times outta ten. not specifically this pair, but this is a fabulous pair, perfectly high rise and distressed, and that price, man. (this is actually the pair i’m grabbing these days. i like the distressed seam at the bottom.)
blue jeans: good price and… do i need to state the obvious? they’re jeans. they go with everything.
denim skirt: i have this one and it’s so nice and chic while also being distressed enough to be casual too. i feel like i can throw my vans on with it, or a heeled sandal or nice boot. downside: hard to take big steps in (if big steps are your thing). i purposefully don’t wear it to the playground with the boys because it is also impossible to climb in and i get on that playground, dammit.
// THE SHOES //
black bootie: i feel like these will go with any outfit your closet throws at you from jeans to a skirt.
slip-on vans: i have these and they are the shoe i’m reaching for every day lately. i feel like they just always work?
brown mules: i feel like mules are really having a moment right now and that’s all well and good but, bear with me for a moment, what if you have to break into a sprint? do you just leave them behind? what, are you telling me you don’t ever have to break into a sprint in your day to day? (these ones are much too expensive to leave behind. if you fear the same, get these instead.)
// THE LONE ACCESSORY //
hat: one that you don’t have to break the bank for, but that also looks chic while disguising the bad hair days–what hats are really for, friends.

Seriously, why is everything I own light gray??
bridget says
suffer from the same affliction. i have no answers!

Everything is grey/black here, too. My husband teases me about it. Also, the mules! YES!! How on earth to moms of littles wear them without breaking an ankle or a neck?!?!?!?
Julie says
Love these! Instead of a bomber jacket I just got an army green jacket. 🙂

If you haven’t seen this top yet, check it out. I have it in 2 colors (light gray and olive) and am in LOVE. It is so soft and comfy. It holds its shape well and I wash and dry it with all my other stuff. It looks like it has been restocked and will go on sale again this evening. If they don’t have it in stock at this little shop (The Ikat Elephant), you can also try Modcloth. They have one there that appears to be the same shirt. It looks almost exactly the same.

Can I just say that I love that these items are actually affordable! It’s such a bummer when you see these awesome items on blogs and click with excitement to check it out then see it’s over a hundred dollars….so just want to say thanks for listing items that are practical and affordable for your average mamma.

Okay Bridget, help a girl out! I am in need of a serious wardrobe revamp. What’s the best way to do this?! Feeling overwhelmed but need new basics and items I can dress up and down… and most importantly, feel good wearing!
bridget says
oh man. basics? gap, old navy, jcrew. stick to those classic places and i don’t think you can go wrong! (although nordstrom has a ton of sales and their free shipping/return policy is my favorite.)
good luck!

Thanks for sharing! I’m a fairly new mom and feel all sorts of out of touch with what’s in this season 🙂 Do you think the canvas vans have the same grown up look as the leather? I work in a ‘no dress code’ but still very corporate place. Trying to stifle my tendency to be cheap because I love the leather, but wondering how much of a difference it makes?
bridget says
i like them both! the leather ones look a bit dressier though, perhaps?

Hi– I just came to your page to search “vans” LOL. I KNOW at some point you posted a link to some cognac leather vans high tops. HELP! I need them 🙂
bridget says
