Swimming in a sea of sunflowers. One more from that beautiful night. Hope you guys have a wonderful weekend. Here’s a few links for weekend reading…
A harrowing piece about the falling man from September 11.

Understanding the after school meltdown. (This was helpful; Parker totally goes through this–especially at the beginning of the year.)

I like this graphic for creating a perfect cheese plate. (The semi-hard cheeses are the sweet spot for me.) I laughed at “the vehicle.”
Zuppa Toscana soup — an Olive Garden copycat (that I’ve never had) — I’m going to make this!
This documentary on the White Helmets will be a must-watch.

See you Monday!

I have read your blog for a couple of years now. A constant staple in my morning routine 🙂 I love the article from the falling man regarding september 11th. As a New Yorker it really hits home. Even 15 years later, the anniversary is hard. On a happy note, I make the zuppa toscana soup every year—so worth it!!

With the 15th anniversary of 9/11, I found myself watching old footage from that day. I was especially caught up this time with the footage of the jumpers and found myself imagining their last moments. To see people hanging so far out the windows so high in the air, I thought they must have been so desperate. Normally, people wouldn’t want to even stand near an open window that high up, much less lean out of it so far. The heat and smoke must have been so unbearable. For the sake of those that jumped or fell, I hope that they felt some sense of relief having the cool wind in their face and being able to breathe fresh air as they plummeted toward the inevitable. My heart goes out the people who witnessed them falling. We know of someone who stepped out of the building and had a jumper land right in front of them. I can only imagine what it would be like to live with that memory. I’ve often wondered why the firefighters didn’t even attempt to rig up some sort of net or something to try to catch people who were falling. (sort of like those old school trampolines you see people jumping onto in cartoons) I guess with people falling from that distance, they would be going much too fast to be able to catch them with anything. So sad.
