I’m not giving him away. Or myself. But the hat on my head! Actually, if you’re freaked out at my potential lice problem (there is no problem, but with grade schoolers in the house, it’s always a distinct possibility) then fear not. I bought two. One for you–lice-free–and one for me–hopefully also lice-free. Ew, why did I get on this lice kick? Anyway…we will be hat twins! Hat sisters! Hat buddies! Hat friends! And I’m done.
I really just thought the hat was cute. And I thought you might think so too. Basically, I am just glad to have this blog and to have all of you friends out there so consider it a thank you–unfortunately you won’t all get one so, to all the giveaway losers, keep reading for your thank you. Even though I’ve never met most of you, your e-mails and comments are really something. I love getting notes that our really crazy love story might’ve inspired you in some way. Or that we have a similar story (and there aren’t too many of us!) and simply sharing a commonality is special. I look forward to blogging every Monday through Friday morning. And I guess I could be doing this simply for memory’s sake but it wouldn’t be nearly as much fun without you guys. Gosh, I’m getting all mushy now. Someone pass the tissues.
So, one of you, have a hat! It’ll be my go-to hat for the cold weather this season and maybe it will be yours too?
And while reading through the many comment options below, have a listen to one of my favorite songs.

Favorite vacation spot: Gimmelwald, Switzerland. Magical little town in the Alps. The hostel is the only bar in town so the locals hang out there and sing along to the accordian. It also has a hot tub heated by wood that overlooks the Alps.

Fave TJs item is so hard, especially since I haven't been to one in months and anything sounds good! I love the Cambozola cheese and their awesome cheese selection overall, the truffle brownie mix, the frozen chicken enchiladas and the seeded baguettes. My husband is obsessed with the chocolate-covered peanut butter filled pretzels. Yes please.
Last one, the coffee/number 2 issue. You are not alone. 🙂
Take it from me, Frye boots are a good investment 🙂 I've had my Campus pair since high school, and…well…that was a while ago.

trader joe pad thai noodles (comes in the redish box for about $1.69)
Saute brocolli, carrots, cabbage, eggplant, string beans (yada yada) and shrimp or tofu (or if you must, free range, non cancer causing toxin free beef or chicken :). In separate pan heat sauce that comes with it and ADD a few tbs of peanut butter (I prefer chunky) and then mix everything together and…
da daa daaaa. you have the most wonderful pad thai peanut satay creation you could ever hope for $1.69! Add fresh lime to taste.

My favorite song is really a toss up. I love climb the walls by radiohead, just breathe by pearljam, and and just about everything that ingrid michaelson creates, though Maybe and Sort of are my two favorites of hers.
Yes coffee does that to me. Mostly hot.. hot caffeinated tea too. We actually used hot decaf on my baby cousins when they are having a tough time.
my favorite vacation spot.. oooo that's a tough one. I haven't traveled much but I can tell you that I spent a week in NOLA in 2009 for spring break. I went with my school and we worked everyday rebuilding a home and a school from about 8am to 5 pm every day, then got to experience everything the french quarter had to offer, like the waterway, all the great shops, and Cafe Du Monte =). Any vacation where I get to experience new things and help others is definitely a plus in my book!

my favorite recipe:
PUMPKIN SAUSAGE PASTA
Simply in Season
by Mary Beth Lind, Cathleen Hockman-Wert
Serves 6
• 1 pound / 500 g penne pasta (or other chunky pasta)
Cook, drain, and set aside.
• 1 pound / 500 g bulk sweet Italian sausage
In large deep frypan coated with cooking spray, brown sausage over medium-high heat. When cooked, remove meat and set aside. Drain fat from frypan and return pan to stove.
• 1 medium onion (finely chopped)
• 4 cloves garlic (minced)
Add to frypan and saute until soft, 3-5 minutes.
• 1 bay leaf
• 2 tablespoons fresh sage (cut into very thin strips)
• 1 cup / 250 ml dry white wine or chicken broth
Add and cook until half of liquid evaporates, about 2 minutes.
• 1 cup / 250 ml chicken or vegetable broth
• 1 cup / 250 ml pumpkin or winter squash (cooked, pureed)
Mix in. Continue stirring until sauce starts to bubble. Add sausage and reduce heat.
• 1/2 cup / 125 ml evaporated milk
• 1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• coarse salt and pepper to taste
Stir in milk. Add seasonings and simmer 5-10 minutes to thicken. Remove bay leaf. Pour sauce over cooked pasta. Combine sauce and pasta and toss over low heat for 1 minute. Garnish with freshly grated Romano or Parmesan cheese and fresh sage leaves (optional).

my favorite song right now is "dog days are over" by florence and the machine. love her.
As for the recipe…I going to give you my granola recipe, I've tweaked it a bit over the years I've been making it, but here's where it started :
http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/maple-granola-recipe/index.html
I use honey instead of maple syrup, no cashews, pumpkin seeds, or sesame seeds, and I add ground flaxseeds. And now my secrets are spilled.
my favorite vacation spot so far is hawaii, loved the honeymoon.
I just ruined my suede vintage Frye boots this weekend by getting fish juice all over them.
Pity entry?

i just get so excited sometimes!!
and while i have many favorite songs, my ultimate FAVORITE song right here, right now is "Ragoo" by Kings of Leon. It's something about the beat, I'm just pumped with energy right now. But over the past few weeks it's been "Nicest Thing" by Kate Nash. It speaks the thoughts of my heart!
sidenote: do you like how i changed from no caps to proper capitalization during that post?
I'm back and I tweeted…check it out…@amandasmith0707
Trying to decide on my favorite recipe but it's making me hungry!
It's hat season, hooray!! I love beanies.
I'm gonna do all theses because I have nothing to do at work. Or maybe I should be doing something but because it's my first week, I don't know what.
http://www.natalieskillercuisine.com/2009/12/chocolate-chip-puddin-cookies.html
That recipe has made me famous.
This is a hard one, but ONE of my many favorite songs is Space by Something Corporate.
I gave you a recipe for chocolate chip cookies, so does that count??
Vacay spot…Cinque Terre!! I think we can both agree on that.
Frye boots are number one on my Christmas list currently. I also wish people would send me money for them.
The maple cookies!!! They are so bad for you, but ridiculously tastey.
I can empathize with the affiction. I'm glad the blog world knows this about me now, haha.
Ok…favorite recipe…it's from memory because I'm still at work and because I don't really follow a recipe:
Stuffed shells/Manicotti
Box shells (the big ones)
2 jars marinara
Ricotta Cheese
1 Egg
Ground Beef (Sometimes I use spinach instead of beef)
Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Boil the shells til tender
Brown the meat
Once the meat is browned add it to the egg and ricotta; add salt and pepper.
Stuff the shells (this is messy)
Pour marinara in bottom of glass bakeware. Then arrange stuffed shells in single layer. Pour more marinara over the top. Cover with Mozzarella!
Cover with foil. Bake in over at 350 for some amount of time(usually until the cheese is oooy goooy) and then ENJOY!!!
Great idea for a giveaway, thank you! I love that hat, and your blog. I'm a recent and happy follower of yours.
– JoAnn

favourite song: quite possibly "moon river". i've loved that song since i was 6 and declared to my parents that i wanted to audrey hepburn. it's a part of me. and it makes me cry.
trying to determine my favourite trader joe's product is HARD. i love everything there. but i think… it's their coffee. any of their coffee. i think i've tried almost every kind they have and they're all good. i'm drinking some as we speak.
(their desserts are heavenly, too. but i feel like that's obvious.)
oohh, and YES to #10! my mom (who's a homeopathic doctor) says it's actually a common thing. coffee is almost like a natural laxative. fascinating, right?
So I just found your blog today and therefore I'd feel a little bad if I actually won the hat, but I just wanted to say that you are freaking adorable and I'm so excited to continue to read your blog!
I'm with you on the Frye boots! Man…

Love this hat. I hope I win!!
Oops should have read how to ENTER:
I love the pork pot stickers from TJ's. My hubby makes them for me and they are delish. I tried making them once and they did turn out as good as when he makes them, so I leave it to him! 🙂
Also, now that I'm not at work I had the opportunity to blog about it. So here it is: http://alexhubbard.tumblr.com/post/1316928934/houseguest 🙂
You are amazingly adorable seriously 🙂
And you look really funny(in a good way) with ur husband on those pictures 🙂
Made me smile really
this is me entering…and so that your comments can be an even 130.
Wow, I was really just going to blog-stalk and run off giggling, but #10 stopped me in my tracks. Starbucks coffee is worse than Activa or those FiberOne bars, for me. Glad to know I'm not alone! Although I would be glad-er if neither of us were so afflicted, of course…
Holy cow, the comments are out of hand! Do you feel like a celbrity with 4 billion people commenting on your blog? 😉 Just after I left the last comment, I remembered seeing this ad somewhere so I hunted it down for you: http://www.thefryecompany.com/facebook/GiftGuide.html
Don't have any money to send you for boots, but all pink Frye boots are 20% off in October. Pretty sweet, eh? And the kids' ones are so cool.
hello you lovely girl, it's only me telling you that i would love to win such an adorable hat! and that i told my boyfriend about your blog, and he said, and i quote, "see sweetheart, we can do it, too, we're not the only ones." so there, you were part of a conversation between two people you've never met! inspiring, why yes, yes you are.
i don't have a tweeter, so i can't twit about it….but as for a recipe, hmm, i have what seems like a million, but perhaps if you're into early-morning baking before the kids & hubbawubba wake up, you can try making these little gems….they're quite a fave, accroding to my tumtum….http://kerrielove.blogspot.com/2010/04/perfect-and-beautiful-raspberry-banana.html
and favorite song according to today, (besides Queen of the Slipstream (Van Morrison) – tell me you know this song?) is "Baby" by Devandra Banhart because it's cute, sexy, sway your hips amazing, all the while moving your head back and forth listening to it in a hot bubblebath….http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gROYU2j-40&ob=av2e
Love the hat!
I love to stay at Grandma's house in Oregon by the river and listen to the waterfall all night while I sleep on the deck under the stars.
