on sunday we celebrated both mine and jordan’s birthdays (our birthdays are one day apart… so i must also say, happy birthday jordan!) with a delicious breakfast of, my favorite, egg, cheese, + bacon on an english muffin (some had theirs on bagels… i prefer the english muffin. the bread to filling ratio is off with a bagel… too much bread. clearly i’ve given this some thought.). william and lindsey made berry muffins all by themselves, oj for the kids, coffee for mom and dad… and we feasted. we used to be really good about having what we called “fiesta breakfast” every saturday morning but we’ve let that tradition slip away a bit. it needs to come back.
anyway, nathaniel came home for the night which was great. and it gave me a chance to work on our christmas card (which i’ll hopefully send out by christmas… that’s the idea, isn’t it?) then later that day we went out to lunch. i got some mocassins that i’d been coveting, and a gift card to anthro… which brings me to this point… is it just me or do you guys stress out a little over anthro gift cards? it’s all, “WHAT DO I GET!? WHAT IS THE BEST THING TO SPEND THIS MONEY ON?” cause, it’s not every day i afford anthro clothes. in fact, steve once got me a gift card to there and i was so stressed out with what to buy myself that i bought KITCHEN KNOBS INSTEAD. stupid.
so, that was that. since my birthday actually fell on a monday (which should be illegal), we did most of our celebrating sunday. but i did enjoy a leisurely breakfast with steve and parker at an old diner near us on monday morning. the type of diner that has juke boxes at the booths, waitresses that you know have been there for years and years, and an old-fashioned cash register with an old man sitting at it, drinking coffee, ready to cash you out before you leave. the best kind of diner if you ask me. oh, and here’s the birthday girl, that’s me… (and the boy who has become like an appendage… with me, always. and i quite like it that way).
Diana Mieczan says
Happy birthday to you and Jordan! Parker is growing so fast and those egg, cheese and bacon bagels look scrumptious. Have a great day. xo
Marjorie says
i always do that with birthday money. stress about what to get and then go for something practical or something not even for me, but the kids! :0 hope you had a happy birthday π
Elizabeth says
1. This is dangerously close to a house tour and I like it.
2. I want to be taken to that diner when I become a Hunt one day.
3. Oh dear, the refresh joke has finally come FULL CIRCLE.
Stephanie Shepherd says
Happy Birthday Bridget! I do the same thing with Anthro, the problem is I want the knobs as much as I want the books, those cute measuring spoons, that dress…I want it all!
Kim says
i agree with the bagel vs. english muffin debate. way too much bagel bread. and my birthday is going to fall on a monday this year… i'm already freaking out. it's president's day and my other half is off work, but i will be in a cubicle all day. on my birthday. pretty sure that's illegal.
Shannon :: The Scribble Pad says
I always love your anthro kitchen knob story – definitely stupid.
your appendage, as adorable as ever (even on the mustard cords you said would be taking a break from your blog)
and I totally agree with the english muffid bread to filling ratio!
happy birthday Jorday!
Shannon :: The Scribble Pad says
oh dear…don't tell Jordan I accidentally wrot JORDAY!
whoops.
Shannon :: The Scribble Pad says
seriously, I think my keyboard is broken, because it can't be me.

I give up.
Bree says
Happy belated to you both!
I was browsing the Anthro site on the weekend to look for a winter headband thing-y and was blown away at the cost of a single bobbypin with 3 circles on it-$98. I just..I don't even have words..
bridget says
@elizabeth, glimpses of my messy kitchen?! glad you like. and yes. that diner. when you're a hunt.
@stephanie shepherd, ME TOO.
@kim., just celebrate on the saturday and pretend?
@shannon, the cords are just too comfy to disappear. and get a new keyboard!
bridget says
@bree, WHAT?! i'm going to check this out. and i'll probably NOT be buying that with my gift card.
jenni says
happy birthday!! i would be stressin about that anthro gift card too!! WHEN i win the lottery i am going to wear anthro and surround my house with anthro furniture/decor. i've thought long and hard about this and i've ruled out all other stores. just anthro. it's a done deal.
Brhea {NoPlaceLykeHome} says
Sounds like a lovely birthday to me. I often get really stressed out by gift cards – for some reason I feel like they are worth more than their dollar amount and that I need to make every penny count!
I agree with Elizabeth, I was spying at your house in the background π would LOVE to see a tour.
Hope your birthday was fabulous.

glad you had an awesome birthday π and you look great, as always.

Happy belated birthday to you and Jordan! Sounds like a perfectly happy family weekend. Those are the best!
Emily Baker @ Tales for Karina Marie says
i love parker's little striped jumper. and i just bought 10 nobs the other day at anthro all on sale. It STILL ended up being $42. I had a bit of a "red-face moment" as my dad refers to them. When you get up to the register and end up paying way more than you expected and your face gets all red.
k, thought i would just clear that up. haha GAH anthro!

bridget says
@emily baker, i knowwww the feeling. and then you're too embarassed to be like, "never mind."
@nessa, i'm glad it's not just me.
Amanda says
Bridge! You forgot to talk about the birthday song you received from your favorite friend who always remembers your birthday. Just saying… Love you!
Meredith Taylor says
Happy Birthday! Ours are so close fellow Scorp… mine is today. I'm glad you had a great weekend. ours were remarkably similar down to the new birthday mocs, hehe.
totally get you on the anthro thing. i've been scoping out the website for my trip this weekend because i really want to make the purchase count! but hey, i'm as crazy over anthro home as i am the clothes.
Dancing Branflake says
How fun! I'm loving that fiesta breakfast idea.
So glad you had a happy birthday!
WhitMc says
Sounds delightful, I love me some egg sandwiches for breakfast. And good call on the bread to filling ratio, you nailed that analysis.

I can't even believe it!?!?!?
Jennifer says
Happy late birthday! Mine is on a Wednesday this year, which should also be illegal.
I stress like that about ANY gift card I get!
Jeneric Generation says
Haha! I am glad I am not the only one who panics upon recieiving gift cards to the best store ever. I got lots of Anthro gift cards for my wedding a few weeks ago, and I am so afraid of buying the "wrong" combination of things. Do I buy lots of little things? Or just two sets of nice curtains? I even thought about kitchen nobs….
It's killing me.
P.S. Happy birthday! You are so nice to share it. π
bridget says
@tori, i think that's the one!
@jeneric gen, yesssssssss. i hear you. good luck with your purchases!
Rachel says
I always stress out over giftcards. I've had 3 (nordstroms, victorias secret, and anthro) since last year that I haven't used because I can never decide on what to use them on. Do I buy myself a treat, something I wouldn't normally buy? Or do I buy something I need, but isn't maybe all that fun? Oh the stress!
MellyB says
I donβt think I have bought English muffins once in my whole adult life. And I loved them growing up. Itβs like a little part of me just woke up. Also I am the exact same way. I get so stressed over how to spend my gift cards that I either A)Hold on to them for an eternity because suddenly nothing is good enough to spend it on or B)Pull a Bridget and come home with a table cloth and a generic clearance sweater. And maybe some lipgloss.
Good luck with that.

Sounds like a perfect birthday weekend to me (it's true, eggs, bacon and cheese make any weekend better but add in birthdays? shoot, no contest)!
And I definitely know about Anthro Anxiety – had it yesterday walking through the store and developing heart palpitations along the way.
erstwhiledear says
Totally relate to stressing over a giftcard. I just spent a Kate Spade gift card on stationary! (in my defense, it wasn't really enough for much else.)
I'm a diner fan, through and through. We might have to loiter there come January.
lori says
that breakfast looks delish! we're actually having breakfast for dinner over here… yumm π
so funny about stressing over what to spend the gift card on… i would do the same thing because its not every day you get to splurge a little π
Lindsay says
Happy Belated Birthday π
sara says
what a perfect way to spend the day…
and i know all about the gift card pressure. i almost always crumble under it and end up blowing it. then i'm pissed and swearing i'll do better next time. sigh.
ps: dude. parker's becoming such a little GUY!!
squeeze him for me promptly!
asymmetricaljoy says
I seriously laughed out loud when you were talking about the Anthro gift card! It's so so true. It stresses me out too.
Also, side note, I'm taking an anthropology class this term and I may or may not have had to proof read my papers an embarrassing amount of times specifically looking for instances where I have spelled it "anthropologie"… sigh. Love that store.
Anyhoo! Happy birthday! π

Happy birthday Bridget! Happy anthro shopping!

That bacon, egg and cheese on that bagel looks really good!
I'm glad you had a great birthday and weekend! That's pretty awesome that all your birthdays now include your cute little guy! That makes it pretty special.
That's funny what you said about stressing about the gift card! But I can relate. I still have a gift card that has at least 20 bucks on it…from JULY!
Lace says
oh my goodness, you just completely put into words my feelings for anthro gift cards. stress.

We have the same birthday (14th, right?)! Happy belated to you and Jordan. And yes, total bummer about the whole Monday b-day thing this year. I'm with ya on it becoming illegal. π Love your blog!

haha, I LOVED your comment about the anthro card. It's so overwhelming! Happy belated Birthday!

I like you, Bridget Hunt.
I want to go to that diner with all The Hunts, including E.
I feel you on the Anthro card. I bought bowls. Cute bowls, but bowls nonetheless.
Ahn says
i have an anthro card that has literally been in my wallet almost 2 years. i think it's value is about $170 and i keep buying things with it and immediately returning them. i just can't handle that kind of anthro cash in my pocket.
the diner breakfast would have been complete if i had been sitting next to steve in the booth. you can have parker.
chanel says
I am SO like this with Anthro cards. It helps when they send you your little 15% off bday card in the mail too though. But it really is like torture walking into there, knowing you can't afford everything, but that you have to walk into there to find something!
ashley says
just found your blog. it's fantastic. just wanted to tell you that. π

happy belated… i think gift cards are similar to actually having money to spend on shopping… you go out guns a blaze and then get so trigger shy when it comes down to it… sorry for the gun analogy… no idea where that came from
